Nursery policies

We have many policies which detail the way our nursery operates. We review these regularly to ensure our practice continues to operate to a high standard and follows current legislation. You are welcome to view these at any time, and the policy folder is located in the nursery entrance. We will also share details of one of our policies with you in our newsletter each month. The following give a brief overview of some of our key policies:

Inclusion and Equality

At Playbox we take great care to treat each individual as a person in their own right, with equal rights and responsibilities to any other individual, whether they are an adult or a child. We are committed to providing equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice for all children and families according to their individual needs.

Promoting Positive Behaviour

We believe that children flourish best when they know how they and others are expected to behave. Children gain respect through interaction with caring adults who act as good role models, show them respect and value their individual personalities. We actively promote British Values and encourage and praise positive, caring and polite behaviour at all times. We provide an environment where children learn to respect themselves, other people and their surroundings.

Special Education Needs and Disabilities

At Playbox we are committed to the inclusion of all children. All children have the right to be cared for and educated, to develop to their full potential alongside their peers. This is encouraged through positive experiences, to enable them to share opportunities and experiences and develop and learn from each other. We provide a positive and welcoming environment, where children are supported according to their individual needs. We work hard to ensure no children are discriminated against or put at a disadvantage as a consequence of their needs. Each child’s needs are unique, therefore any attempt to categorise children is inappropriate.

We are committed to working in partnership with parents, in order to meet their child’s individual needs and develop their full potential. We are committed to working with any child who has a specific need and/or disability, and will make reasonable adjustments to enable every child to make full use of the nursery’s facilities. All children have a right to a broad and well-balanced learning environment.

Our staff work closely with Parents and Carers to ensure we meet each child’s needs and encourage them to achieve their very best. We are happy to work with any other support agencies who may be involved in your child’s learning and development.

It is the responsibility of the staff at Playbox to make sure all children are developing in a safe and secure environment. Whilst children are in our care there may be occasions where we have concerns about an injury or a change in a child’s behaviour, or we are concerned that a child is being harmed. The welfare of the child is paramount, and it is our responsibility to keep children safe. We will always take the correct steps to ensure their safety. In some circumstances this means we will have to report concerns to Social Services. It is our intention to work closely with the correct authorities to protect the children in our care whatever their age, culture, disability, racial origin, language or political belief. It is the law that Social Services must look into reports of any concerns of injury or risk to a child.

We have a Safeguarding Board in the nursery entrance, which displays key information relating to our safeguarding policies and procedures. The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is Lisa Holmes and the Deputy DSL is Kirsty Vaughan.

Complaints and Compliments

We hope that at all times parents are happy with the service provided, and we encourage parents to voice their appreciation to the staff concerned.

We welcome any suggestions from parents on how we can improve our services, and will give prompt attention to any concerns that parents may have.

Our full complaints and compliments procedure can be found in the Policy Folder in the nursery entrance hall.
